Flight of the navigator

Having an all singing all dancing website is great, but the most important factor in having a successful website is that people can use it and easily find what they are looking for.

We recently worked with a company who we ran a test PPC campaign for. The campaign was very successful in that it attracted a lot of new visitors to the site, but it seemed that after the user got to the site they either had a quick look around or simply dropped out of the site all together.

The problem, in short, was with the site navigation and the fact that the enquiry process, which is what the client wanted visitors to the site to engage with, was hidden away and quite time consuming to complete. In addition the site was quite cluttered and untidy, with an array of unrelated adverts, which only worked to distract instead of enhance the visitor’s enjoyment of the site.

When you design a website think about what you want the user to do; be it place an order, make an enquiry or buy a product and make those things accessible. You should also consider the navigation and make sure that it is clear and actually aids the user in their navigation of your site. Pages that are buried don’t get read, so if it is important then make sure it can be found. You might think that something is straight forward but this doesn’t mean that everyone else will too. Ask a colleague or a friend for their thoughts. You know what they say, ‘two heads are better than one’.

Velvet launch their ecommerce site

Brighton based store Velvet have gone from strength to strength since they opened 7 years ago and are now taking the store ‘online’ with the help of Juretic Media.  8th Day Design designed the site and handed over the build andoptimisation to us using the latest ecommerce technologies.

Velvet Store

Velvet was set up in 2000 by husband and wife duo, Nick and Emma Harrop and with the help of Emma’s mum Iris Draper have expanded the gifts and accessory shop to include furniture, lighting, clothes and shoes. The shop now has a wealth of celebrity customers from actors to footballer’s wives to politicians to Big Brother Housemates and pop stars.

Velvet worked with Eighth Day Design to come up with the creative and then teamed up with Juretic Media, who are the Creative Digital Marketing Agency, also based in the heart of the city, to develop and build Velvet’s ecommerce site.

Velvet’s three stores in Brighton and Hove have a huge range of beautiful French-Chateau, Art-Deco, Retro, Shabby Chic, Kitsch and Contemporary style furniture and home furnishings. Their range is vast, from lighting and mirrors to clocks and door knobs and they just won Independent Retailer of Year 2007 in the Prestigious Brighton and Hove Business Awards.

Juretic Media have created a site that is as diverse as the stores, and that runs alongside a content management system that the Velvet team can use to easily update the site with new products.

Juretic have also set about optimising the site so that it performs well in all search engines and will be adding new features, like a ‘trends blog’ which will add content and give other reasons for potential customers to return to the site. Juretic will be working with Velvet to make sure that they get the best from their site and helping them to come up with new online marketing strategies.

The site is available at www.velvetstore.co.uk and is full of inspirational ideas and stylish solutions for the home.

Best4headsets gets top ranking on Google

After launching the site last year we have been busy driving traffic to it via Search Engine Optimisation, Pay per Click and Email Marketing Campaigns; which all have enjoyed great success.

The site is less than a year old and is already listed in the top results on Google for highly competitive phrases such as “Headsets” and “Telephone Headsets”.

Our online marketing activities are combined with full analytics, campaign tracking and return on investment reporting; giving the board of directors a clear view of the results for every traffic stream.

Grove Financial Planning Launched

We have just launched the Grove Financial Planning website, with great success; the site received 8 enquires in the first 5 hours of launch. Perhaps this had something to do with our creative internet marketing strategy – we like to think so!!!!

We developed the company’s full brand proposition; including logo, offline print and website design.

The website is the key to generating business for the client. After studying user behaviours and the client’s goals, we developed a site that communicated a clear and simple message which drives visitors into making an enquiry.

Pay per Click campaigns were setup targeting user groups and search phrases within Grove’s target market. Within minutes of launch, the site was receiving its first enquires.

With the addition of advanced Web Analytics we can track the return on investment of all enquires and marketing activities. Currently the site has a conversion rate of over 12% (the industry average is 3.5%!!!!!!)
